Cece Decoteau, founder and operator of The Midnight Baker LLC, started her journey as a baker in a small Louisiana kitchen with her mama as a young child. She remembers going out to the backyard, collectin’ fresh blueberries and lickin’ the spoon clean while delicious muffins baked in the oven. Louisiana’s food-centered culture always meant the kitchen was the place to be! That’s where you found fuel for your bellies, minds, and hearts. Many lessons were learned and memories made in lively Louisiana kitchens surrounded by her friends and family.

Owning her own business was never part of the “plan,” it sort of just happened on it’s own. In 2020 when things had shut down around the world, Cece and her boyfriend (now husband), Cody, found themselves without work and movin’ back home to Baton Rouge. While they were figuring out what to do next, Cece took the extra time as a chance to re-kindle her love for baking. She’d always been curious about royal icing sugar cookies, so her mother in law bought her a starter kit for Christmas that year. While she thought she was starting a new hobby, that little Christmas gift quickly grew into so much more.

After sharing her first few cookie sets on social media, friends and family began requesting custom designs and things just took off. Cece’s been creating delicious desserts and memories for friends and family for 4 years now. At first there was a lot to learn - she spent many late nights running on fumes and energy drinks, trying to get things done in time. Up well past midnight, exhausted and dragging her husband into the thick of it, Cody jokingly nick-named Cece “The Midnight Baker.”

Looking back on the last 4 years, from Louisiana to Maryland, from recipe flops to fine tuned favorites, and from hectic late nights to perfectly executed baking schedules, we couldn’t think of a name more fitting and true to our roots. Now that we are making things official, we had to add our delicious homemade pralines, a Louisiana staple, as a feature on our menu!
